Welcome to our Kitchen, we would love to get to know you a little better and for you to get to know us as your wedding cake makers. We’re Erica and Charlie, mother and daughter, designing nature inspired sugar art on truly amazing wedding cakes in Maidstone, Kent.
Ask anyone who has worked with us what they loved best about us and they would probably say, we’re a bit chatty (sorry can’t help that, we’re just so enthusiastic!), full of ideas and passionate about what we do.
We’re known for creating forever memories with one-of-a-kind wedding cakes and macarons. As your wedding cake makers we can’t think of anything better than meeting and talking with you. Your ideas, the colours you choose, flowers you love, sometimes your quirky hobbies combined together bring your wedding cake to life.
“I can’t explain how perfect my wedding cake was I was literally speechless! Erica and Charlie have been amazing throughout! It’s been such fun working with you and of course trying all the samples! Best cake makers ever!”
Bluebell because it conjures up the beautiful spring flowers you see in the countryside, Erica’s favourite flower by the way!
We added the word ‘kitchen’ because the kitchen is the heart of the home, somewhere we come together to celebrate. It’s this sense of home and family that are at the core of all that we do as your wedding cake maker.
Our studio is based in Maidstone, Kent where you will find us baking and creating (and chilling occasionally!) We create and deliver our handmade wedding cakes and macarons to venues in London, Kent and throughout the South East.
We began Bluebell Kitchen as a part-time business making cakes to sell at country fairs and local markets. We’ll let you into a secret - the first fair we went to we got so carried away with the cakes we forgot to take a float for change for our customers. Not only did we sell out, but we got our first wedding cake order too.
We gradually started building up our order book for wedding cakes. We also decided to improve our skills, we knew we wanted to be able to offer exquisite handmade sugar flowers and mouthwatering macarons. We learnt from ‘the experts’ including Peggy Porschen, Zoe Clark., Macarons & More.
We don’t want to boast, but we won the Kent Wedding Cake Designer of the Year Award while still working part-time. Like all ‘Oscar’ winners we keep the trophy in the downstairs cloakroom!!
Four years ago we took the plunge and opened our business full-time. That’s when the fun really started.
We love baking and creating beautiful handmade sugar flowers. We soak up so much inspiration from the nature surrounding us. Each sugar flower is a labour of love, bringing your wedding cake to life in a burst of colour ensuring a luxury finish to every wedding cake style.
Your wedding bouquet can be recreated as hand crafted intricate florals so that every part of your wedding cake is personal and unforgettable, seamlessly balancing your bespoke design with delicious flavours. Every single flower is made sugar petal by sugar petal to preserve their natural delicacy. Elegance handcrafted into your wedding cake design.
"…the most beautiful cake ever! Thank you for making our day just that bit more perfect."
Talk to us about your wedding, tell us what your dreams are for your wedding cake, what inspires you. As your wedding cake makers we ask lots of questions to get an idea of what you are thinking. You may use one of our designs as a starting point, but remember your cake will always be unique to you,
We want to ensure that the experience of planning and designing your wedding cake with us is as magical for you as your wedding day itself, whether you are having an intimate country wedding or in a grand ballroom at one of London’s iconic venues.
"We wanted to say a huge thank you for our wonderful wedding cake. Our idea was a little different, but that was no trouble to you. What you created was just beautiful…from cake tasting to cake cutting - what a lovely experience."
Getting lost at London Zoo and screaming the place down. My mum said I made more noise than the animals.
Funniest thing to ever happen to me?
Being soaked at every theme park I’ve ever been to (I just love water slides) and then having to squelch around in embarrassment. Worth it though.
Character in a book?
Elizabeth Bennett because she has attitude!
My luxury if stranded on a dessert island?
Probably a grand piano, and some music.
My dream adventure?
A safari in South Africa to see the elephants in the wild.
Picking up a cockroach in Cairo and being scared out of my life.
Silliest thing I’ve done?
Breaking down my boss’ door when trapped in her garage and her dogs were on the other side in the house. The locksmith asked if I was a karate expert!
Character in a book?
Thursday Next because I’d get to be a literary detective, have adventures in a parallel book world and keep a dodo as a pet!
Favourite Line of Duty?
I loved Series 3, the best ever. No spoilers, but if you have never watched Line of Duty, MOTHER OF GOD, why not?
Mini dachshunds, I just love them.
