If you are real lovers of fantastic flavour profiles, unique ingredient combinations and lavish takes on classic tastes, you’re in good company with Bluebell Kitchen. Our signature style is creating bespoke luxury wedding cakes that look and taste high end, but with the added love and care that only being home-baked can bring. That’s why we have dedicated so much time to crafting our flavour menu, and we’ve brought together our top 10 wedding cake flavours for foodies. We can only apologise in advance for any mouth-watering or tummy-rumbling that may occur during the reading of this blog!

We love the fact that wedding cake flavours have moved on so much from classic (and, let’s face it, often downright stodgy) fruit cake* stored in the freezer for years – our modern couples prioritise being adventurous and having fun with their flavour choices, and we believe wedding cakes are to be enjoyed to the full on your wedding day.

Blending exquisite taste with outstanding design is a sure fire way to help you remember your wedding cake as an exciting element of the day, not just an afterthought.

*Side note: we have nothing against a great fruit cake, and this rich classic still features proudly on our flavour menu!

Now, it’s time to grab your cuppa and indulge in our top 10 wedding cake flavours for foodies…

Wedding Cake Flavours For Foodies: Gourmet Takes On The Classics

As the saying goes, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ – and we firmly believe that the classic favourite wedding flavours are here to stay! We have, however, added our own Bluebell Kitchen flair to the tastes you know and love, and we think they’re better than ever.

1. Luscious Lemon

You just can’t beat a slice of lemon wedding cake, as evidenced by the fact that we make this almost every time we bake! This light, zesty classic provides the fresh tang of Sicilian lemon oil balanced with light citrusy buttercream, with a baked-in swirl of lemon curd for a sweet surprise. A refreshing crowd pleaser that takes pride of place at the top of our flavour menu.

We have also developed a new, playful version of Luscious Lemon especially for you adventurous foodies who like a tasty twist. A mouth-watering blend of citrus and berry, this flavour features light lemon sponge, zingy yuzu and homemade blackberry jam. It’s lemon, but even more luscious.  According to Kezia and Sean…

The cake was so unbelievably delicious – we wish we had another entire cake to ourselves!’

2. Rich Chocolate

Chocolate lovers, look no further for the tier of rich decadence you’ve been dreaming of. Our Belgian dark chocolate sponge is lovingly layered with rich chocolatey buttercream, and a saucy swirl of caramel. It’s deep-flavoured and delicious, and we’re sure it’ll be one of the most reached-for flavours on your wedding day!

3. Vanilla Berry

Our list of wedding cake flavours for foodies has to include our delicate take on the well-loved Victoria Sponge. We begin with a Madagascan vanilla bean sponge cake, exquisitely light and aromatic.  We layer this with silky vanilla buttercream and homemade summer berry jam. It’s bursting with seasonal hedgerow berries and soft yet striking vanilla flavour.  Just gorgeous for all times of the year.  Mandy and Keith said…

‘We had so many lovely comments about how wonderful the cake tasted. It all went on the day, which is a sure sign of how fantastic it was!’

4. Carrot Cake

The Bluebell Kitchen carrot cake is everything you love about this familiar, homey flavour – light, warm spices, plump sultanas and the subtle addition of a delicate orange buttercream. Natalie and Dave crowned it…

‘the best carrot cake ever!’

and who are we to argue? This one works perfectly for informal, classic summer garden style weddings.

5. Raspberry Red Velvet

A red velvet sponge is inherently decadent, and our twist on the classic features ripe raspberries baked right into the sponge. We finish it off with our homemade raspberry jam and top with velvety Madagascan vanilla buttercream, a luxuriously light and summery flavour combination.

Wedding Cake Flavours For Foodies: Bluebell Kitchen’s Unique Flavour Profiles

Because so many of our couples are now big foodies, it was important that we develop some fun and unique flavours to satisfy your culinary curiosity. Our lively flavour combinations are sure to surprise and delight…

6. Orange Blossom & Almond

A lovely combination of floral and nutty flavours, Tess and Lawrence described this as

‘the best cake they’d ever tasted’

and there was no doubt it was to be included in their wedding cake! We infuse Valencian orange oil sponge with orange blossom water, balancing the fresh citrus notes with a bold, nutty almond buttercream. It’s a little daring and totally delicious.

7. Coconut & Blueberry

This is secretly our favourite flavour, and we find it utterly moreish! First we bake a creamy coconut sponge and top with coconut buttercream for a tantalisingly tropical base, before layering homemade blueberry jam for a fabulous foodie flavour you didn’t know you needed!  Marika and Harbhinder’s guests agreed, and they told us

‘everyone commented on how tasty the cake was – and the coconut and blueberry was a big hit!’

8. Tipsy Champagne & Strawberry

Nothing says ‘celebrations’ like a glass of bubbly, so we took the liberty of infusing our vanilla sponge with Marc de Champagne and strawberry flavours – enter: the grown up vanilla sponge, with an extra level of sophistication. It’s light, luscious and hard to keep your hands off.

Tall photo in the trio of cakes shows coconut and blueberry with a scattering of dessicated coconut over hte slice of cake and blueberries at the side. The two small photos show different close ups of tipsy champagne and strawberry with a slice of fresh strawberry at the side.

9. Peach Melba

A classic dessert combining tender peaches, tangy raspberries and vanilla ice cream has been reimagined into a wedding cake flavour with flair. It’s the ultimate indulgence of fruity flavours, and one of our upcoming clients has ordered a second tasting box* just so they can have another taste of peach melba! Alternating layers of sweet peach and rich raspberry sponge are finished with Madagascan vanilla buttercream, and homemade peach and raspberry jam…you can thank us later.

10. Toffee Apple Crumble

Last up on our list of wedding cake flavours for foodies is one that always catches people by surprise – toffee apple crumble. Every time we add this as a ‘wild card’ flavour to our couples’ tasting boxes, it always gets chosen to feature in the wedding cake. The warm, comforting flavours feel inspired by autumn, but this actually works wonderfully all year round. Think rich sticky toffee apple sponge with a dusting of cinnamon, balanced with light vanilla buttercream and tart blackberry jam – it’s sharp, sweet and soulful all at once, and an exciting addition to our menu.

We hope you’re feeling inspired and delighted at the prospect of choosing your wedding cake flavours, just like we are every time we step into the kitchen to bake them for you. Selecting the layers of loveliness to surprise your guests with is a fun process, and we’re here to make it as enjoyable and delicious as possible. Don’t forget to take a peek at our macaron flavours too (the perfect bitesize beauties to go alongside your wedding cake), and get in touch to add the first ingredients of your luxurious wedding cake.
