A Macaron Tower Wedding Cake Dream at Kindred London

Sarah and Russell’s October wedding at Kindred London was everything they’d dreamed of – a fun, cocktail-style celebration filled with friends from around the world, and one spectacular macaron tower wedding cake created by us that had their guests talking all night.

We asked them to share a few words about their experience so we could show off the photos in this blog. They said the moment they discovered Kindred in Hammersmith, they knew they’d found their perfect wedding venue.

“Like most couples, we started our venue search with a long list of ‘musts’ but we knew a big, traditional white wedding wasn’t for us,” Sarah explained. “We wanted something fun, a little quirky, and somewhere that felt like a great party waiting to happen. Kindred ticked every box and then some.”

Essentially, Kindred London provided the ideal backdrop for their non-traditional celebration with no sit-down meal, just plenty of canapés, bowl food, cocktails, and time to dance the night away.

The perfect vision: a macaron tower wedding cake

Sarah and Russell came to us with one absolute must-have: macarons.

“We weren’t actually planning on having a traditional cake. We’d always dreamed of a macaron tower (I’ve been obsessed with macarons since I was little),”

The macarons reminded Sarah of childhood family holidays in France, making them deeply personal to their story.

After discovering our Instagram and seeing they could have the best of both worlds – a macaron tower with a cake tier on top – they knew they’d found exactly what they were looking for. What started as a tower-only plan evolved into something even more spectacular when they visited our studio.

Initially, they weren’t planning any flowers at all, but when they saw our sugar flower wedding cake work during their consultation, they changed their mind. Russell told us:

“The sugar flower replicas on the cake completely blew us away, they were so detailed and beautiful.”

Rich jewel tones with personal touches

When it came to making their London wedding cake, they chose a single-tier Peach Melba cake crowned with rich jewel-toned and pastel sugar flowers, sitting atop a five-tier macaron tower. The macarons cascaded down in a rainbow of deep autumnal colours with salted caramel, pistachio, summer berry, peach, and raspberry ripple perfectly complementing their navy blue colour scheme.

But we just loved their personal touches: Custom geometric bear and bunny cake toppers, inspired by their “slightly cringe but very cute” (their words not ours!) nicknames for each other! Russell, a trainer fanatic, had custom-designed Jordans made for their wedding day featuring the same bear and bunny motifs, so we worked with local business Etch & Adorn to create matching toppers that brought their personality right to the top of their cake. Sarah explained:

“We wanted a cake that felt completely us. Erica and Charlie took all these personal touches and somehow turned them into one show-stopping, totally unique macaron tower.”

A cake that stole the show

Positioned on a tall bar table directly in front of the stage, their macaron tower was impossible to miss. Their wedding cake was really important to them and they not only wanted to enjoy it, they wanted all their guests to do so too! The dramatic display meant every guest could admire the towering creation as they celebrated.

But when it came time for the cake cutting, things didn’t go quite as planned. Sarah laughed:

“We rehearsed the big stuff before the wedding – rings, speeches, aisle pacing… but cake cutting? Didn’t even cross our minds. Between the cake being on a high table and our slight height difference, let’s just say our ‘cut’ was more of a wobbly wedge than a clean slice.”

The band, positioned behind them on stage, didn’t let the moment pass unnoticed as the lead singer grabbed the mic and cheerfully announced their complete lack of coordination to the whole room.

“Not our most graceful moment, but a memorable one!”

A Cake They’ll Never Forget

The morning after their wedding, Sarah and Russell spent time eating leftover cake and opening cards as the perfect ending to their perfect celebration.

Their guests are still talking about the spectacular macaron tower, and their Google review says it all:

“The result was nothing short of spectacular – a breathtaking cake that our friends are still talking about! We cannot recommend them highly enough.”

In their follow-up email, they told us: “A huge HUGE thank you for what can only be called your magic! The cake was absolutely stunning ❤️ far better than anything we could have imagined and certainly a talking point of the evening!”
