Spring is the perfect time of year for choosing your wedding style. Being cake designers, we of course must share with you all about our ideas for cake trends in 2018…be it for wedding cakes, celebration cakes or whenever you need something delicious!
At Bluebell Kitchen we believe that cake is much more than simply a dessert, it’s an integral part of any celebration you are enjoying.
Sugar flowers, marbled cakes and gorgeous lace texturing appear to be very strong in 2018 along with more whimsical personally styled macaron towers.
Sugar Flower Wedding Cakes
Sugar flowers and we mean stunning, hype realistic sugar flowers are likely to feature strongly in 2018. From the traditional delicate white roses to bright, vibrant Birds of Paradise they provide a luxury finish to almost every style of wedding cake. They last forever and are beautiful memento of one of the most important days in your life!
Marble Wedding Cakes
The marble cake is ideal for a minimalist, modern wedding. It has been quietly building in momentum for the past couple of years and has really come into it’s own late 2017/ early 2018. Grey tones to create a stone like finish are the most popular, but mixing them up with pretty pastels or bright bold foliage can create a stunning and dramatic alternative wedding cake. The marble and sugar flower combination are our personal favourites.
Lace Wedding Cakes
Replicating the lace from your dress to your wedding cake has always been popular, but with advances in cake lace (a fun, flexible and very easy to use alternative to traditional royal icing) the contrasting lace effect on a wedding cake has got a whole lot more delicate and we think we are going to be seeing a lot of this in 2018 and into 2019. We believe this takes your wedding cake to another level in sophistication and becomes the real showpiece of the room whether on a tiny two tier for an intimidate wedding or a double stack five tier extravaganza! This even works with a winter wedding using delicate lace snowflakes rather than traditional cutouts and piping.
Macaron Wedding Cakes
Macarons are an absolute favourite of ours. They may be complicated to bake, but when they work they are absolutely stunning. A fantastic alternative to the contemporary macaron tower style are whimsical macaron wedding cakes finished in pastel hues, edible gold leaf (metallic hints are as popular as ever) and fresh roses within the macarons themselves.
Last but not least, we cannot possibly talk about cake trends without mentioning the Royal Wedding. Everything wedding cake trend wise could be turned on it’s head now that we know that Harry and Megan have chosen their wedding cake! How much do you bet that we are going to be seeing a lot of buttercream, elderflower flavours and fresh flower wedding cakes in late 2018/ early 2019?
Bring it on with your wonderful creative trends and lets get baking!
