Chilston Park Wedding Cake Inspiration: A Vintage Heart Lambeth Cake

Some wedding cake designs give us the perfect excuse to do something a little different, and this was definitely one of them.

Set in the gardens at Chilston Park in Kent, this late summer wedding shoot had a relaxed French château feel. With soft pinks and greens, lots of flowers, a gorgeous outdoor table and, right in the middle of it all, a vintage heart Lambeth wedding cake.

For us, it was a chance to have a little fun with a very different style of cake, and of course add macarons too.

Late Summer Wedding Inspiration at Chilston Park

The gardens at Chilston Park were the starting point for the shoot.

We love seeing all the different parts of a wedding come together. Coordinated by Georgia Barbara Events and Weddings by Lisa-Marie and working closely with a wonderful team of Kent based wedding design specialists, they planned an outdoor ceremony framed by floral columns and urns filled with flowers. Soft blush pink, ivory and green continued onto the table with green patterned linens, tall candles, crystal glassware and plenty more flowers.

Your cake doesn’t need to match everything around it. Choosing a colour, flower or little detail can make it look completely at home.

Hand Painted Macaron Wedding Favours

Rather than simply adding boxes of macarons to the table, we made them an essential part of every guest’s place setting. Each macaron was hand painted with delicate floral details inspired by the outdoor ceremony itself and of course Donna Ripley’s gorgeous fresh flowers.

It’s one of the things we love about creating macaron wedding favours. We ensure your macarons are personalised to you and your wedding day as a whole. They can include everything from your colours, flowers, initials or another little detail from your day. And because they’re edible, they won’t be left behind at the end of the night.

A Vintage Heart Lambeth Wedding Cake

The cake was always going to be the star for us. We are cake makers, after all.

We created a single tier heart shaped Lambeth wedding cake with vintage piping in soft pink and ivory. Three macarons on top added another touch of colour and linked the cake back to the hand painted macaron favours.

Heart shaped cakes and Lambeth piping have a wonderfully playful feel, but we still wanted this one to look at home at Chilston Park. Keeping the colours soft and the piping delicate did just that.

It also shows that a wedding cake doesn’t have to be huge to get noticed. Shape, colour and detail can do all the talking.

Peach Melba Wedding Cake

And then there’s the bit that really matters when you cut into it…the taste.

We chose our Peach Melba wedding cake flavour. With alternating layers of peach and raspberry sponge, Madagascan vanilla buttercream and homemade raspberry and peach jam, this cake tastes like a lazy, hazy day in late summer. It’s fresh, fruity and one of our couples’ favourites.

We care just as much about what’s inside your cake as we do about how it looks. Once everyone has admired it and the photographs have been taken, you want your guests to actually enjoy eating it and definitely come back for another slice.

Your wedding cake cutting moment

You can see by the couple’s faces just how fun your cake cutting moment should be. In fact the generous tasting that followed said it all. We have a bit of a soft spot for cake cutting photographs. Your cake is there to look beautiful, but ultimately it’s there to be cut, shared and enjoyed.

We love to hear all of the joy and funny stories of your cake cutting moment

By this point in the day everyone is usually relaxing, and you finally get to cut into the cake you’ve spent months planning. The photographs from this shoot capture exactly what we love about it – lots of laughter and absolutely no attempt at a tiny, polite taste of cake.

It’s something we love seeing from our real weddings too. At Joyce and Matt’s Cooling Castle wedding, their Master of Ceremonies spontaneously turned their cake cutting into a full cake photo session.

Planning Your Own Chilston Park Wedding Cake?

Perhaps you love the heart shape cake but want to add sugar flowers. Maybe it’s the vintage Lambeth piping you can imagine across three tiers. Or perhaps you’ve skipped straight past the cake and decided you need hand painted macarons at every place setting. You don’t need to have your whole wedding cake worked out before you come and see us. We’ll talk about your venue, flowers, colours and the things you already know you love (and anything you definitely don’t) and go from there.
