We’ve been baking beautiful, imaginative cakes for wonderful couples for over ten years and if there’s one thing we’ve learnt, it’s this: a stunning design will get people talking, but it’s the flavour that’ll keep them raving. Because let’s be honest: the best wedding cake flavours aren’t just a lovely bonus, they’re the whole point.
Our cake flavour menu has been years in the making, filled with lovingly developed recipes and flavour combinations that go far beyond the classics (although we love those too). Whether you’re planning a countryside celebration in Kent or a stylish city soirée, our flavour-first approach means your cake will taste just as good as it looks.
So if you’re on the hunt for the best wedding cake flavours, or curious about what’s trending in the world of Kent wedding cakes, this guide is for you.

What are the traditional wedding cake flavours?
Picture a classic white wedding cake with tiers of icing hiding rich, boozy fruitcake. It’s the OG of wedding cakes in the UK, and while it still has a place at some tables, most of our couples want something a little lighter… and a little more exciting.
That’s where we come in.
What are the most popular wedding cake flavours?
Vanilla sponge, rich chocolate, luscious lemon – all classic flavours that have stood the test of time (and hungry guests). But these days, we find that couples are getting creative.
We’ve taken those popular wedding cake flavours and added a twist:
- Vanilla Summer Berry: A grown-up take on Victoria sponge, made with Madagascan vanilla, homemade summer berry jam, and silky buttercream.
- Champagne & Strawberry: A cheeky upgrade on the Vanilla Summer Berry with tipsy undertones and fruity freshness.
- Peach Melba: Our signature summer flavour we’ve spent a long time perfecting – a light sponge with handmade raspberry jam and peachy buttercream. A solid contender for the best wedding cake flavour of all time (we’re not biased at all…).

How to choose the best wedding cake flavours for your big day?
Forget “What’s trendy?” and start with “What do I actually want to eat on my wedding day?” Your cake should reflect your taste, your style, and your story. That’s why we always encourage couples to mix things up: try something unexpected, add a wildcard flavour to the tasting box, or personalise each tier to suit your favourites.
Here’s a tip we love to share about the best wedding cake flavours….
If your wedding dessert is rich (hello, sticky toffee pudding), then choose a fresh, zingy cake like our Lemon Elderflower Meringue. It’s light, floral, and full of English country garden vibes, ideal for spring and summer weddings.
For chocolate lovers we recommend our Valencian Chocolate Orange with layers of fluffy chocolate sponge with a sophisticated orange-chocolate buttercream. Think Terry’s… but make it luxury.

Want to feel decadent without booze or chocolate?
Decadence doesn’t have to mean chocolate overload or liqueur layers.
Take our Orange Blossom & Almond: a dreamy Valencian sponge scented with orange blossom water, layered with almond buttercream.
Or the crowd-favourite Pistachio, Orange & Raspberry which is nutty, fragrant, and so good it should come with a warning.
Can’t pick a cake flavour? You don’t have to
That’s the joy of a tiered cake! Each layer of your wedding cake can have a different flavour. Go classic, go wild, go completely bespoke. And no one needs to guess which slice they’re about to eat as we provide flavour cards for each tier or even include the sketch of your cake as we created for Miriam and Dan below detailing their wedding cake flavours on each tier:

What are the best wedding cake flavour combinations?
Finding the best wedding cake flavour combinations is definitely an art form. It’s a delicate balancing act which we’re always looking to perfect!
We particularly enjoy and recommend:
- Lemon Elderflower Meringue – A subtle take on a trend that’s here to stay.
- Toffee Apple Crumble – A sweet, spiced upgrade from salted caramel.
- Peach Melba & Strawberry Champagne – Fruity, floral and fancy.

Should you choose seasonal wedding cake flavours?
We’ve talked about the best wedding cake flavours for people already, but what about the best wedding cake flavours for the planet? Using seasonal produce wherever possible is an excellent way of keeping your wedding sustainable and eco-friendly.
If you’re looking for a more sustainable option, then you’ll be pleased to know we use locally sourced fruit where we can, and we make our jams in small batches (with a lot of love and a lot of taste tests). From the berry-packed Vanilla Summer Berry to our zesty homemade lemon curd, seasonal ingredients are the secret to flavours that really shine.
Can you make gluten free wedding cakes?
We regularly bake for people who need gluten free or dairy-free wedding cakes, and more. Whether it’s a separate kitchen cutting cake or a specific gluten-free tier, we’ll work with you to make sure everyone gets a slice.
We work with a fantastic small business (Little Bakery of Happiness) who creates the best gluten free flour we’ve ever come across (in our opinion!). It’s the magic behind cakes that don’t feel like an alternative and that still disappears just as fast.
Like Amy & James’ gluten-free wedding cake at The Orangery, Maidstone they were hoping there’d be leftovers… there weren’t.
