As Kent wedding cake makers, we’re very lucky that our couples’ weddings are so diverse and we get the opportunity to make so many different kinds of luxury wedding cakes. Nicola and Alex’s colourful wedding at Kent Life in Maidstone was the perfect example of this.
Like all our couples, Nicola and Alex truly appreciated the art of elevating their wedding day visions through elegant, harmonious elements, and the simple pleasure of a slice of cake baked with love. We’re thrilled to be telling you about their colourful Kent wedding…hello, tropical sunset cake!
Kent Life – perfect for a colourful Kent wedding
Nicola and Alex’s colourful wedding was inspired by a treasured holiday to Costa Rica, and they wanted to harness the exotic, tropical atmosphere they loved so much, including the beautiful Monstera leaves.
“…I think our theme came about when we were looking for a design for our save the dates. We browsed through so many and the only ones that stood out were the ones with Monstera leaves on and we’d end up reminiscing about our favourite trip we took to Costa Rica….”
Deciding that colour was a big theme for them, they chose to get married at Kent Life, giving them a truly unique Kent venue with a rustic, informal vibe. Not only that, but they planned to marry in the Pink Wedding Chapel there – another dream because they had secretly thought of going to Las Vegas!
Two-tier colourful tropical wedding cake bursting with sugar flowers
As anyone who knows us will agree, we love a colourful wedding with lots of vibrant sugar flowers. As your Kent wedding cake designers, we’re known for creating forever memories. We set to work designing a two tier tropical wedding cake bursting with sugar flowers. We hand painted an ombré base of warm oranges and yellows to create an amazing sunset theme.
“Our cake was stunning! It had the bright colours of a sunset and featured a mini version of our cat and flowers to match my bouquet.… “
We knew we wanted to add lots of vibrant florals to the cake, so we got in touch with Linsey at Stag Cottage Flowers to discuss what kinds of blooms she would be using in Nicola’s bouquet. This is an important part of your wedding cake experience with us, we always find out what other elements of your wedding will be like, so we can make sure your cake works as part of a bigger whole rather than looking like an ‘add on’.
“We showed you photos of cakes we liked … and (you) even worked with our florist to get a better idea of the flowers in my bouquet which could go on the cake. I hadn’t even thought about this …. We absolutely loved the design that you sent over and didn’t want to change a thing ….“
For their colourful wedding in Kent, the hand made sugar flowers on the cake tied in with the brights of Nicola’s bouquet and she also asked for some splashes of lavender, one of her favourite flowers. We used Monsterra leaves to decorate the base of the cake, completing the tropical dream.
Nicola and Alex’s tasting experience
Not only do we want your cake to look out of this world, we want it to be a taste sensation. Part of our consultation with you is for you to receive a tasting box to ensure you pick the flavours that you and your guests will enjoy. We also want to ensure that our couples really enjoy the whole experience when buying their wedding cake.
“… I’ll also never get over how good it tasted and I still think about the icing to this day…part of me wants to get married again just so I can have a few more slices! We even froze some which we ate on special dates after the wedding and took some to my Nan, who couldn’t make it to the wedding and she was so happy.”
Alex and Nicola chose cappuccino coffee – lush coffee infused Madeira sponge accompanied with alternating layers of coffee and vanilla buttercream, and peach melba – alternating layers of sweet peach and rich raspberry sponge filled with Madagascan vanilla buttercream and homemade raspberry jam.
If you’re looking for a luxury wedding cake in the Kent or London area with that lovingly home-baked feel, don’t hesitate to contact us – we’re already excited to hear about your ideas.
